1- Islamabad City:

Islamabad is located in the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT), near the Pothohar Plateau, close to Punjab province. It is famous due to its beautiful surroundings, foliage, and lush green hills that are overwhelming. The ninth-largest city in Pakistan is a well-planned city that reflects many milestones in its development.

Islamabad is celebrated worldwide for its natural beauty. Before exploring its attractions, it’s helpful to understand a bit of its history as Pakistan’s capital.

When Pakistan came into existence, the first Capital of Pakistan was Karachi. Over time, the population of Karachi has increased constantly. Ideally, a country’s capital should be centrally and strategically located relative to major cities.

However, due to overpopulation and from an economic standpoint, Karachi remained the capital of Pakistan until 1959. Rawalpindi then served as the temporary capital while Islamabad was being constructed.

President General Ayub Khan ordered the construction of a beautiful metropolis near Rawalpindi City in 1958. Since the construction of the new capital was still incomplete, Rawalpindi was temporarily declared the capital of Pakistan.

2- Islamabad Well-Planned City:

Although Islamabad was declared the Capital of Pakistan, the city’s construction followed a well-planned procedure. The construction of Islamabad began in 1960 AD.

Islamabad officially became the capital of Pakistan in 1966, with the transfer process completed by the early 1960s.

Only highly qualified architects and urban planners were assigned to design the city.  For this purpose, the renowned Greek architect and city planner Constantinos Apostolos Doxiadis was contacted, and his master plan was approved.

Space is allocated to shopping areas and parking in each sector. Over time, there was innovation in the construction of Islamabad, and this beautiful city is blessed with many historical and official buildings.

On the Eastern side of Islamabad, the beautiful Mountains of Murree are fascinating and inspiring due to the attraction of greenery to the visitors. Since Karachi was a corner of the country,  President Ayub Khan wanted to make Islamabad the capital to connect various cities. Secondly, the royal residence of all Countries is located far from the borders and in the middle of the country, so it was decided to make Islamabad the capital. Apart from this, another main reason was that the headquarters of the Pakistan Army was also in Islamabad.
