Natural landscaping areas are essential to enchant the significance and beauty of Kaghan Valley. Valley Kaghan is located around the lush green belt of the Himalayas that connects the mountains. Kaghan Valley is positioned at the village of Kaghan near the River Kunhar at the end of Kaghan Valley. The large Valley of Kaghan consists of Balakot, Jarid, Ghanool, and Shogran. The River Kunhar flows alongside the road. The total length of the Valley is 161 km, starting from Babusar Pass and ending in the Balakot region. Some opinions are invalid, such as the fact that the river Kunhar is the primary part of Kaghan Valley, which helps enhance its natural scenery in a luxurious style. The land of lakes is renowned for its unique architecture and creation of natural landscaping adventures. The word Kaghan, Kaghan, or Qaghan is similar to a title in Turkic, Mongolic, and some other languages, as an emperor who ruled a sultanate.

  1-   The beauty of Kaghan Valley:

The beautiful Valley of Kaghan presents its charming scenery and adventure for tourists and enhances beauty to refresh the dullness of the mind. Man is a social animal. He has to work from dawn to dusk. But he is tired mentally and physically, so he wants to maintain his health and peace.

In our leisure time, when we plan a trip to northern areas, it is helpful to provide natural beauty and brush up our mind and health. Many people all over the world try to achieve mental peace and rest. However, due to the loss of mental peace and calm, they developed many diseases.

The local community of the Valley is decent, peaceful, and friendly behavior with tourists. Pak-China Economic Corridor passes through the Valley and is undoubtedly helpful to increase the development process for Pakistanis. The area is best for zoological, Medical wildlife, and forest natural resources.

  2-    Location:

Kaghan Valley is located on the Northern side of the Himalaya range and the Southwest side of Nanga Parbat. Kaghan Valley belongs to the Hazara Division of Mansehra. It lies between 73°-28’ to 74°-07’ East longitude and 34°-17’ and 35°-10’ North latitude.

The boundary of the Valley connects to the state of Azad and Jammu Kashmir and Neelum Valley by the East and along the Southern side, the Northern belt scope to Chilas and Gilgit, and Westbound connects to Shangla and Buner.

The gateway of this beautiful Valley is Balakot Valley, which welcomes tourists to visit Balakot along with Kaghan Valley. The valley distance from Islamabad is 250 km.

3-      Geographically, Kaghan Valley:

The geographical location of a city plays a crucial role as it determines the characteristics of the land surface and the climate, both of which influence farming conditions.

  • Land Surface:

The Valley contributed as a parallel range that reached a high range from different sides and reached 5291 m, to the Malika Parbat range. The Valley is hardly 24 km wide and spread over 945 km2. The observation is that the Valley consists of grazing areas 55 55 55%, forest spread into the Valley, only 24.6%, and agriculture, 6%. The other parts of the Valley consist of built-up areas, roads, and other land in the Valley. Alpine pastures spread in the Himalayan areas in a wide range and also help to feed livestock animals. The alpine meadows are also beneficial in the summer season for livestock. Total alpine pasture spread over 71,939 hectares.

  • Forest Zone:

The Valley is divided into five forest zones.

1-Manshi Reverse Wildlife Sanctuary spreads over 2368 hectares.  

2-Malakandi Reverse Forest 2212 hectares.

3- Nuri Bichla Reverse Forest 1787 hectares.

4-Nagan Reverse Forest 1637 hectares.

5-Guzara Forest

  • Climate:

The weather is cold almost all year. The minimum temperature of the Valley reached -6.0°C in January. In June, the maximum temperature records near 30.5° C every year. In May, the maximum temperature record was near 11°C, and its minimum reached 3°C. The hilly areas of Pakistan provide landscaping areas, and the alpine meadows look equal to velvet grass. The weather of the Valley is irregular because the area is surrounded by mountains that cause landslides during the rainy season and landslides. The average snow record is near 662 ft. The coldest temperature on record is 0°C.

  • Average Rainfall:

Most rain occurs in the Valley in the summer monsoon. In the winter season, rain also falls in the Valley. The total average rainfall in the Valley is approximately 2500 mm. The snowfall starts in November and ends in February. In the spring season, its average reaches 14.3 inches. In summer, it reaches 25.8 inches. In the winter season, its average record is 7.5 inches.

  • Agribusiness:

The land of the Valley is different on all sides. Some people are familiar with this trend of cutting the hilly areas in the downstairs shapes and harvesting their crops in the stirs in a decent style. The water is given to the crops through the irrigation system.

This beautiful scene helps to enhance the richness and beauty of the weather and the Valley. The big crop of the Valley is maize.  Yet the people harvest other primary crops like Wheat and rice. In the other corner of the Valley, potatoes are also cultivated.

Major fruits that grow there are apples, peaches, plums, pears, and cherries. The land of the Northern areas is semi-arid, which cannot increase the development of agriculture. All people who have fun cultivating the land depend on a 1-hectare area. Mostly, 88% person has below 1 hectare areas of cultivation.

 4-    Area:

The Valley covers a total of 19790.4 hectares across the bank of the River Kunhar. The highest peak in the Valley is Malika Parbat, and its height reaches 5,291m. The second peak is consciousness as Musa Ka Musalla reaches its height of 4,046 m. Makra Top reaches 3,885 m in length.   

 5-    Education:

The educational resources in the valley have diminished, which adversely impacts the valley’s natural beauty. The majority of the valley is illiterate. A total of 71% people in the valley are illiterate. 24 % can complete matriculation exams. Intermediate people reach 4 %. Yet only 1 % of people received certificates for graduation and post-graduation classes. The main issue that people face is the lack of educational facilities.

 6-    Cultural Heritage:

While visiting the valley, you observe that it is full of heritage and cultural resources. Their unique and impressive living style is admirable due to their appreciative sense. Most houses were constructed according to the unique” Dhaji Style” before the earthquake of 2005 AD. The houses are built with stones, mud, and wood, which can adapt to the environment. They are warm in winter and cool in summer, enhancing the beauty of the houses. The 2005 earthquake hit those houses badly. Many people died, and several were injured while destroying houses. Many people built concrete houses that had to be approved by the Earthquake Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Authority. Now people construct houses in a modern style rather than traditional architectural methods. Thus, you can see these traditional houses on the upper sides of the valley. They also constructed guest rooms along with their houses that are renowned for Baithak or Dhehdi. 

  • Dress:

Young people like to wear a Shalwar and Qameez with decorated scarves of different colors.”Old men” like to wear a turban. Women wear a Shalwar and Qameez with a Shawl with embroidered metals. Women used to decorate their hair with small coils. Women also wear decorated caps called Lachka. The women’s cap is embroidered with Kashida Kari’s work.

  • Language:

The most popular languages spoken in the valley are Hindko and Gujri. The Urdu language is quite popular among the local people.

7-     Mills:

Many famous mills were built near the Kunhar River. The flour mill, famous as Jandar, the mill of husking rice, is called Piakoh. The most famous and familiar mill used for cotton is known as Belna.

8-     Festivals:

Pakistan is an Islamic republic Country. Yet, many religious events and festivals are celebrated there. Religious events are usually spent according to the Islamic calendar. In Kaghan Valley, many Islamic events are celebrated with devotion.

Eid-ul-Fitr (religious festival) After the fasting of Ramadan on 1st Shawwal Eid-ul-Fitr is celebrated.

  • Eid-ul-Fitr (religious festival):

Eid-ul-Fitr is a religious festival, and after fasting during Ramadan, on the 1st of Shawwal, Eid-ul-Fitr is celebrated. Firstly, after the Fajr prayer, women cook vermicelli, Sheer Khurma, Pudding (kheer), Rus Malai, and many sweet dishes. This Eid is also famous as Methi Eid (Sweet Eid).

After bathing, people wear new clothes and offer Eid prayer in the Eidgha. They also gave Fitrana to poor people before Eid prayer, so they celebrated Eid joyfully without frustration.

Eidgha is an open-air place where Muslims offer Eid prayers. At the sunset of 29 Ramadan or 30 Ramadan, when the Shawwal crescent appears in the sky, the 1st Shawwal morning Eid is celebrated. After offering prayer, Muslims embraced their relatives and friends. Children receive many gifts and also receive pocket money from their elders.

  • Eid-ul-Azha (Dhu-al-Hijjah religious festivals):

Dhu-al-Hijjah is the twelve month of the Islamic calendar. At the 10th Dhu-al-Hijjah, Muslims celebrate Eid. On the occasion of the 10th Zul-Hijjah, after the Fajr prayer, wear new clothes and go to Eidgha. After Eid prayer, Muslims embraced their relatives and friends.

On this Eid, Muslims sacrifice their animals (goat, camels, buffalo, cows, and Dumba fat-tailed Sheep) for the sake of Allah Almighty. After this, the meat is divided into three equal parts. One part of the meat is for relatives, the second for neighbors, and the third for house people.

  • Polo (Sport):

Polo is a cheerful and fascinating sport that has inspired everyone. Different participants from northern areas participate in this game. The game is held in the summer. Many tourists are attracted to watch this game.

  • Hashar (Cultivation festival):

Cultivating crops is a significant and admirable task that highlights their importance. In northern regions, during the harvest season, people come together to gather the crops collectively. During this time, they sing folk songs accompanied by the beat of a drum, a practice known as Hashar.

  • Urs of Peer Shah Sahib (religious festivals):

Urs (the death anniversary of a Sufi Saint)of Peer Shah Sahib is celebrated twice a year. Urs of Peer Shah Sahib held in Kot Bhalla Sharif (a village in Balakot).

  • Tribes:

The most famous and well-known tribes are Syed, Qureshi, Swati, Awan, Kashmiri, Mughal, and Gujjar. The Gujjar tribe is most famous due to its unique culture and heritage, and is considered an essential part of any valley.

9-     Nomadic and Semi-Nomadic Nation:

First, we describe that the weather in the valley is snowy in the winter. Kaghan Valley people who lived there faced the severity of the weather.

  • Semi-Nomadic Nation:

Semi-Nomadic are mostly Gujjar, and some belong to the Pashto language. Nomadic people are especially renowned as Aajri or Bakarwal. The unique and admirable attitude of people is pleasing. They migrate from one place to another according to temperature and trends.

Their culture, trends, heritage, customs, and other habits are unique and appreciated. The traveling situation is thick and full of difficulties. Their culture and marriage ceremonies are varied, yet they may face weather storms, rainy seasons, and weather conditions in their tent houses.

  • Nomadic Nation:

They lived in Kaghan Valley. During the winter season, they used to travel to the lower parts of the Valley to save themselves from the severity of the weather. When summer returns, they leave the lower areas and reach the upper surface areas of the valley. Where Nomadic people settle is renowned as the Mohali (meadows) areas. Their primary business is related to agriculture and animal breeding.

  • Barbering:

They are also famous as Nai. Their main work is hairdressing for people and cooking food for many ceremonies organized in the valley.

10-   Handicrafts:

In Kaghan Valley, there was an established handicraft center called the “Handicrafts Development Center”. In time, they are making furniture and handicrafts from cedar wood. Their handicraft style is most popular all over Pakistan. Their prices are different all over Pakistan.

11-   Marco Polo Resort:

In Marco Polo Resorts, tourists can stay and enjoy all the comfortable facilities. Marco Polo Resort is located 247 km from Islamabad Airport, 1.5 km from Kaghan Valley, 32 km from Lake Saif-ul-Muluk, and 260 km from Rawalpindi. Tourists can enjoy free Wi-Fi facilities and a parking area.

Hence, they can also enjoy walking tracks that run along the River Kunhar. Although this land is based on fairy tale stories. But they can enjoy the freshness of the River Kunhar along the Walking track of the Marco Polo resort.

The snow-covered mountains and the charming and pure environment are also incredible to describe in my own words. The pearl-like shining water of River Kunhar and the fresh weather help to enhance the beauty of the landscaping areas.

Along with this, also, constructed family houses were introduced as glamorous ports. These houses are built according to advanced and luxurious technical facilities. The river Kunhar sounds and the landscaping beauty present a heavenly scene.

In Kaghan, there are many prepared dishes such as biryani, Karahi, desserts, and several other famous delicacies. Chapli kabab, Saji, barbecue, Haleem, and fish fry are some delectable cuisines that are also cooked in unique varieties.

  • Food:

They enjoy maize bread (makai ki roti), saag (a spinach mixture), lassi (a blend of yogurt and water), chutney (sauce), achar (pickle), and lobia (red beans). Guests and tourists appreciate these traditional foods. In addition, they serve mutton, beef, kebabs, pulao, and other delicious dishes.

13-   Tourist Attractions Places:

  • Kiwai Waterfall:

The Kiwai Waterfall is located about 24 kilometers (15 miles) from the Balakot Division. The best time to visit is from May to September, when the weather is cool, with temperatures ranging from 3°C to 11°C. It’s essential to wear hiking shoes for your journey, as the path near the waterfall is rocky and challenging, and proper footwear will protect your feet from injury.

During your visit, you’ll find the weather pleasant and uplifting, which can help you forget any worries. Once you arrive, you will be awed by the breathtaking natural scenery that is truly beyond description. The area features a unique charm that reflects local culture and style. There are chairs and tables, along with traditional Cultural Beds (Charpai), set up along the stairs leading down to the waterfall.

This setting is undeniably beautiful and perfect for those seeking an adventurous experience. Although the weather can be cold, if you prefer to visit during the summer, be sure to bring warm clothing to stay comfortable.

a-  Refreshment:

You can enjoy their mini restaurant cafes and different stores on top of Abshar, which is helpful to your appetite. The food is prepared according to the healthy version. There are famous hotel is Asian hotels that can be visited during the path to travel near Kaghan Valley.

  • Kunhar River:

The Kunhar River springs from Babusar Pass and flows towards the southern region of Pakistan. It eventually merges with the Neelum and Jhelum rivers near Muzaffargarh and Azad Jammu and Kashmir. The river plays a crucial role in supplying water to the second-largest Mangla Dam and also provides water to Lake Saif-ul-Muluk, Dudi Pastar, and Lulusar Lake.

The Kunhar River is renowned for its whitewater rafting, making it a popular destination for adventure enthusiasts throughout Pakistan. The river rafting scenery is particularly breathtaking in the Naran Valley, offering an enjoyable and exciting encounter with nature. The watershed of the Kunhar River covers a total area of 161 square kilometers.

Alongside the stunning landscapes, the river is located between latitudes 34°-17’ to 35°-10’ North and longitudes 73°-28’ to 74°-7’ East. Additionally, the Kunhar River is famous for its trout fish, which is well-regarded around the world.

  • Lalazar:

Land of Flowers, a hilly station of greenery located in the upper Kaghan Valley, presents so magical scenery that resolves the hardships of life. It is located at 21 km from Naran Valley. Its height above sea level reaches the elevation of 10,246 ft (3,124 m). From June to August, these months are best to spend leisure time in the northern areas.

  • Lake Saif-ul-Muluk:

Lake Saif-ul-Muluk is situated at the northern end of the Kaghan Valley in the Hazara Division of Mansehra. It is close to the Naran Valley and is located at an elevation of 3,224 meters (10,577 feet) above sea level. Local people describe the legend about the lake, which is especially associated with the Lake. The name of the lake is famous at the name Prince Saif-ul-Muluk. He may be Mughal Empire or belong to an Egyptian princess.

The total area of the lake is 2.75 km2. The pleasant and adventurous atmosphere of the lake urges the people to once again. It lies at 34°52’37.34’N, 73°41’37.71E. The mountain lake Saif-ul-Muluk is located at the northern end of Kaghan Valley. It is abundant in large brown trout. It is situated between mountains, and due to snowfall, it is hard to reach Saif-ul Muluk in the winter season. Most easily accessible from May to mid-September.

Its water temperature remains below 10 degrees Celsius. The prominent lake is famous for its beauty, fairy tale, and depth of about 34 m (113ft), but some local people say that we have ever measured the lake’s depth. Around Lake Saif-ul-Muluk, you are inspired by landscaping beauty, making it more beautiful in comparison to other lakes.

There are many caves near Jheel Saif-ul-Muluk. Some prominent species found near the lake are Leguminosae, Scrophulariaceae, Apiaceae, Gramineae, Brassicaceae, Ranunculaceae, and Polygonaceae Families.

  1. If you are planning to travel to Lake, then you must follow some essential instructions.
  2. You can buy soft shoes while walking around the lake, which saves your feet from injury and tiredness.
  3. Wear a mask (men) on your face and a cap on your head (women cover with a scarf), it will protect you from the cool breeze.
  4. Must wear sunglasses.
  5. Keep your Medicines in your bag.
  6. Warm Clothes.
  7. Rainy Coat keeps in your bag.
  • Ansoo Lake:

Ansoo Lake is renowned as Ansoo because its shape resembles to tear-like shape. Ansoo Lake was discovered by Pak Air Force in 1993 while flying in a low-capacity area. Thus, local people have enough information about it. Ansoo Lake is situated near Malika Parbat in the Himalayan range.

It is situated at a high elevation of 16,490 ft (5,072 m) in Kaghan Valley in Mansehra District. The Mansehra District is in the North-West Frontier Province of Pakistan.

a-  Instructions:

  1. Always keep your essential medicine in your bag.
  2. Wear comfortable shoes to protect your feet from injury.
  3. You must wear sunglasses and a mask to protect yourself from the harsh weather.
  4. The rocky path of Ansoo Lake is dangerous but stunning due to its calm surroundings.
  5. During your journey, nothing exists; there is no tuck shop, yet you take your food in your bags.
  • Dudipastar Lake:

Dudipastar Lake, which is encircled by a white snow range of mountains and a blue-cloudy sky, invites visitors to travel to the lake. The lake is also known as” Dudipastar Lake”. It is situated at the end of Kaghan Valley in Mansehra District. Lulusar-Dudipastar Lake is found at an elevation of 3,800m (12,500ft). The meadows, lazar, and greenery alongside the lake attract and captivate to increase the beauty of the lake.

a-   Accessibility:

  1. From the beginning of Dudipastar Lake, there is a town, Besal or Besar, which comes first from Lulusar Lake. The track is difficult but amazing, and the calm environment helps you forget all your boredom.
  2. Due to security issues, there is no permission for anyone to make a base camp near the lake. There, people are forced to make a base camp in Mulla ki Basti and then carry on their journey to the lake.
  3. There are two ways to adapt to a travel lake.

b-   Instructions only for moderate hikers.

  1. The trek of going to the lake is complete in only one day. If you are hiking up to the lake, there must be a minimum of 3-4 hours, while coming down requires 2-3 hours.
  2. The moderate hikers who traveled to Dudipastar first stayed in “Mulla ki Basti,” so they stayed for the night there. The next morning, they started their journey to Dudipastar Lake. There are 6-10 hours for hikers. While coming back, they complete the journey in only 5-6 hours.

c-  Instructions:

  1. Wear Hiking/ Jogger Shoes on your feet.
  2. If you enjoy camping, be sure to have a sleeping bag ready.
  • Jalkhand Lake:

Jalkhand or Pyala lake is 40 km (25 mi) from Narran Valley in Jalkhand Kaghan Valley. It is renowned as Katora, Pyala in the local language because of its Pyala shape. Pyala or Katora means like a bowl shape; this lake is short in its capacity.

Full of energy and a rich, peaceful environment, this lake plays an important role in increasing the development scenery of beautiful, picturesque imagination. The clear and crystal-like water is enough to admire the beauty of the lake and its importance.

The world-famous lake is fed by melting glaciers and snow near the mountains. It is said that Alexander the Great, when he conquered Persia, the lake was renowned as “Bucephalus Lake” after the name of his horse.

  • Lulusar Lake:

Lulusar is a combination of two words, Lulu and SAR. SAR means the top or peak in the Pashto language, while Lulu means as long. The lake exists between the Lulusar Mountains, which is why it is renowned as Lulusar Lake.

The beautiful lake presents an image of beauty and clarity of refreshment that is helpful in encircling the beauty of nature. Its elevation from sea level reaches 11,190ft (3,350m).

The lake can be found on the way to the Babusar pass, 48 km (30 ml) from Naran Valley. It lies between 35°0’8.04” N73°9’ 2.66” E. The Total length of the lake is bound to 2 km and 150 ft in depth.

There can be found nightingale bears, deer, Nafa Hiran, and Monal.

The water of the seven lakes resembles like chain, which is why it is famous as Sat SAR Mala Lake. The common people couldn’t reach these beautiful lakes easily. Only adventurous people reach this beautiful lake, which reminds us of the significance of beauty.

  • Batogah Lake:

Batogah Lakes are located between Kaghan Valley and Kohistan. The beautiful and majestic lake is found at a height of 13500 ft above sea level.

  • Babusar Pass:

Towards moving to Babusar Top, the scenery that attracts you in your journey is amazing and reliable, which cannot be described in a short words. The cross-moving roads, icy mountains, lush green hills, waterfalls, and lakes that hit you on the journey are also compatible with to description in reality.

The fairyland, which is decorated in nature, urges us to we must be thankful to Allah Almighty. Allah Almighty created this world so beautiful. The mountains are like a snow-blanketed blanket, looking for people. Babusar Pass is situated at an elevation of 4,172m in the middle of Kaghan Valley and Thak Valley.

It is located at an 80km range Northeast side of Narran Valley. Chilas Valley, which is also famous and attractive found at a distance of 43 km on the southern side.

During your journey, you can be fascinated by the beauty of the Lalazar Plateau, Dudipatsar Lake, and Lulusar Lake. The best time to visit the Babusar Pass is from May to September.

a-    Why is it famous as Babusar Pass?

At the beginning of the 16th century, Zahir-ud-Din Baber crossed that path. Since it is renowned as Babur Pass or Babur Top. After this, it was famous in local communication as Babusar Pass or Babusar Top.

First, the British constructed that road in 1890 AD, which links Gilgit-Baltistan and British India. Before the construction of the all-weather KKH (Karakorum Highway), it was a major part of summer transportation that connected the Kaghan Valley to the Gilgit Baltistan region.

This path remained fixed from 1947 to 1978, and then it was officially opened for regular transportation.

In May, the maximum temperature record was near 11 °C (52°F) and the minimum reached near 3 °C (37°F).

  • Malika Parbat:
